Primary School Years 1 to 4
Starting school or coming to a new school is a very exciting time in a child’s life and in the Primary section at Scholars International Academy, we believe we can offer a caring, happy and inspiring environment in which to grow, learn and flourish. We are a community where progress is evident and the children demonstrate daily their enthusiasm to learn.
Your children are the reason why we are all here. Firstly, and in my opinion most importantly, we will always try to ensure that your child is happy. We fully understand that children’s happiness, safety and wellbeing must always be the priority.
The children are at the heart of every decision we make to ensure that they are happy, confident and that the opportunities that are provided for them are relevant to their needs both now and in the future.
Here at Scholars International Academy we follow the UK National Curriculum. Whilst academic learning is highly valued we also know the importance of a broad and balanced education, with the talents of each child recognised and celebrated, thereby enabling all of our children to grow in confidence, develop a sense of responsibility and achieve their personal goals. Pupil wellbeing is at the heart of everything we do, we aim to educate the whole child in order to enable them to be the best that they can be. We are passionate about promoting and safeguarding the welfare of all our children and are committed to providing a welcoming, community atmosphere in which we can nurture the achievements of every child.
We believe that a happy child is a child who will enjoy learning in a positive, inclusive and fun environment. Our aim is to ensure that each and every child fulfils their potential and is ready for the next stage in their education.
Literacy is the area central to all learning and an integral part of all our work in the primary department. It is seen as a way whereby each child can develop their thoughts and feelings, their ideas and concepts as well as their language expertise. Every part of the different experiences in school, foster the purposeful use of language, equipping children with the personal and social communication skills they need to become effective members of the community. Their language is developed through a wide range of speaking and listening opportunities incorporating drama and role-play situations. A rich variety of reading materials and frequent writing sessions enable them to acquire the essential skills required at this stage of their education.
Mathematics is a creative and highly inter-connected discipline that has been developed over centuries. It is essential to everyday life, critical to science, technology and engineering, and necessary for financial literacy and most forms of employment.
In Science we aim to develop enquiring minds and for the children to gain knowledge and understanding of scientific concepts and skills. Children are encouraged through a variety of situations to develop skills of imaginative, disciplined and systematic enquiry. Through practical activities children can develop the ability to formulate and test hypotheses, and above all to understand the provision of scientific explanation.
Our key learning values are woven throughout our curriculum, curiosity, communication, reflection, resilience, motivation, creativity, collaboration and bravery. In order to engage and enthuse our pupils’ tangible links are made across all areas of the curriculum. Through our engaging curriculum, we ensure that children can foster a passion for learning and curiosity that will help to develop high aspirations and a lifetime of memories. We believe in ensuring that children receive a well-rounded curriculum; where individual talents can be spotted and nurtured to ensure that all children experience success and reach their full potential.
The school has a dedicated team that works hard to reach high standards in everything we do and this is further embedded through our successful relationships with parents. We firmly believe that education is a partnership between home and school and regard you as an active partner in your child’s education and value your interest and support.
The staff and children are extremely proud of our section and are always pleased to show current or prospective parents around so that you can see for yourself what we have to offer your children.
